As part of our regular series of profiles on the region's Young Farmers' Club members, 23-year-old BEN DUNNING says a sheer love of the job is his farming inspiration.

I've been in employment at Harold Jones for five years, and it's gone by so quickly. I love working there not just because I like working in agriculture, but because it's an enjoyable place to work, both in the tractor cab and in the workshop.

Most of my days start at 7am, but this varies depending on what the weather is like and what time of year it is.

Around this time of year we are normally ploughing when it is dry enough but, when it is wet, we are in the workshop doing repairs and sorting out any mechanical problems with the machinery.

Just to show the variation in what I do, we spent last week mainly cutting up trees and removing them from where they had fallen in the high winds.

When I can, I love to get out shooting at this time of year. I enjoy being outside even in my own time.

This year, I passed my slug pelleting qualification which will enhance my responsibilities at work and I would like to continue at Harold James for the foreseeable future, as I enjoy working there so much.

This season with YFC, I have taken part in the hockey competitions, which has been a great laugh for me and the club.

Through Young Farmers I have gained so much, not only lifelong friends, but so many skills which I use every day at work. I think Young Farmers is a great organisation and I love seeing it thrive, especially at club level.
