East Anglian dairies celebrated two clean sweeps in the British Friesian class at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show.

The competition at the Three Counties Showground in Worcestershire brought a first calf championship for the Gemini herd in Shipdham, near Dereham, run by Tim and Ava Barrell.

Their calf Gemini Solo Cher was closely followed by Gemini Ignitor Primrose as reserve champion, while an honourable mention went to Oakalby Eiger Britto from the Oakalby Dairy, run by the Burroughs family at Wheatacre, near Beccles.

The two dairies also shared the honours in the handlers' championship, won by Liam Banns from the Oakalby herd, with Joshua Etteridge of Gemini in reserve, and an honourable mention for Jakki Tompkins of Oakalby.

Ava Barrell said: 'It was my very first calf champion, so it has been a tremendous season for me.

'It was a clean sweep in the calves and a clean sweep for the handlers. We are really flying the flag for East Anglia. It was a really good turnout and the judges said the quality of the calves was excellent.'
