SCARECROWS are taking a break from their bird-scaring work and flocking to Martham for its annual festival on Sunday and Monday.

Visitors can follow a trail of the creations and also decorated wheelbarrows using a map which details garage and garden sales going on throughout the village.

Organisers will man a stall in the large marquee on the green alongside good quality books, music, films, clothes and bric-a-brac.

Proceeds will be used to support Martham Community Centre, a new venture which organisers hope will be used by the residents of the village.

On both Sunday and Monday there will be craft, charity and car boot stalls on the village greens as well as demonstrations by local organisations and children’s rides.

Entries in the children’s art competition can be viewed in the marquee on the village green.

There is also a treasure hunt using picture clues. All answers to be returned by 3.30pm on Monday.

Spot auctions and raffles will also take place over the two days.

Other attractions include the teddy bears picnic flower festival at the Methodist Chapel, an art exhibition at St Mary’s Church where people can buy a work of art, climb the tower or have a cup of tea.

People can also visit the “living scarecrows” at Martham Grouped Homes where they will be having a sale of goods and also serving refreshments and cream teas.

On Sunday at 5.30pm the living scarecrow competition near the Co-op will be followed by a performance of songs and music by Phillip (village butcher) and John – why not bring a picnic?
