A cross-dressing man, comedy chase scene and beautiful princess are all crucial elements of a traditional pantomime.

And Snow White, performed for the first time at Sheringham Little Theatre last night, had plenty of that in abundance and more.

Written by Killian Donnelly, a rising star of the West End, the family show had jokes, innuendo and songs to suit every generation.

In a twist from the original story updates were provided by Fairy Twitter, played by Ashlea Lauren, in front of a mock Twitter screen which cleverly linked all the scenes.

There were also references to Doctor Who throughout the show because the voice of the magic mirror was provided by John Hurt. He recently played a reincarnation of the Timelord in the 50th anniversary programme.

The magic mirror worked very well and was a hit with the audience which had a good rapport with the main characters.

Nurse Nanny Knotty Knickers, played by Russel Hicken, was a popular character and attracted a lot of laughs with her witty comments to other characters and the crowd, comedy and many extravagant outfits. Costumes included a Dalek and a giant cake.

One high point of the pantomime was when Kyle Fraser, who played the role of the dashing Woody, had an ad-lib moment with Fairy Twitter during an unplanned curtain malfunction before singing a solo song about him talking to the moon.

All the main characters complemented each other well and gave entertaining performances.

Local school children provided the cute factor as the seven dwarfs and chorus parts.

Snow White runs from tomorrow to January 4. To book tickets call 01263 822347 or visit www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com.
