The tagline of Movie 43 informs the audience that “Once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it” and essentially that is the problem, as Movie 43 could well be the worst film I have ever seen.
The official plot synopsis for Movie 43 is as follows: A series of interconnected short films follows a washed-up producer as he pitches hilarious and insane story lines featuring some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
Now, there are a couple of problems with this ‘synopsis’. For one the movie is far from hilarious and finally the apparent storyline does not exist, because as far as I could tell Movie 43 really isn’t about anything. To me it felt like an abomination that would be lucky to air on national television, but instead seeing as it features so many well-known actors this dump has crash landed onto our screens. To describe it as a poor sketch show would be a definite understatement as poor would be a nice way too put it, it’s actually hard to emphasise how bad this film is without cursing. Upon watching the film it’s evidently clear why so many stars wanted to avoid being in this so called ‘film’, because if I was someone like Richard Gere I’d probably be embarrassed too.
It really isn’t a pleasant experience at all, and being completely honest I wanted to walk out after the fifteen minute mark, but unfortunately I decided to stick it out. However I can’t say the same for other audience members, who at times appeared to be leaving by the truck load.
Upon originally hearing about this film my immediate reaction was that it should be a pretty good comedy, that would at least garner the odd chuckle and my main reason for believing this was that the film features some great actors/actresses. For example we have Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry and Dennis Quaid to name a few and upon hearing that most of them were apparently ‘guilted’ into doing this movie says a lot. As I don’t think any good professional would want to lend their name to this monstrosity.
A lot of people have been complaining that they found this movie to be vile, disgusting etc.; however I wouldn’t say I was shocked by the content, I was more shocked by it as an overall product, and the main reason for this was because I didn’t laugh once throughout the duration of this film. It’s not that I didn’t want to laugh; it’s just that I didn’t find the film funny in the slightest. When the film’s best gag involves a man with testicles attached to his neck then you know there’s something wrong and I wouldn’t be surprised if it tuned out this film was written by a twelve year old, but then again I don’t even think a twelve year old would stoop this low.
I advise you to avoid this garbage like the plague as I wouldn’t want anyone to share my pain, not only do you have my guarantee that it’s the worst film I have ever seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was regarded as one of the worst films of all time.
