It’s probably not the best spot over the weekend but Vaults made it mostly work.

Kicking off day two on the tucked away iArena at Latitude the pop act made it a pleasing start.

A couple of minutes before they were due to play a call went out in the press tent - “Vaults are playing, I hear they are really good”.

Heads raised from screens, a few of us went over for a look.

The group’s soft approach drew comparisons to Jessie Ware. The blurb said they were a “mysterious new band” but there was nothing unnerving about them.

With strings, a soothing vocal and lots of synth sounds the group were a Co-codamol away from making me fall to sleep (but in a good way).

For all their positives one thing that always nags when you see a group who don’t hit all the boxes is song quality.

There’s a fine line between music to relax to and sounds which become lodged in the background. Vaults were certainly close to slipping over that line but their class saved them.
