The UEA's insurance premium must have rocketed last night. Welsh rap collective Goldie Lookin' Chain were in the house - and they brought their best flammable sports suits with them.

And in the audience there were leisure suits, sun visors and enough bling-bling gold jewellery to make even Norfolk Lottery winner Michael Carroll jealous as the crowd celebrated the return of the Newport Heroes.

It's hard to believe that just a few months ago GLC were playing at Norwich Arts Centre.

Thanks to a hefty amount of radio airplay, a successful summer season on the festival circuit, a string of hit singles, and a ban from Top of the Pops they've hit the big time.

They burst on to the stage at the LCR last night looking like they'd ram-raided JJB sports declaring “Newport's in the house!” and proceeded to entertain the sell-out crowds with tales of their favourite recreational pursuits (sadly unrepeatable in a family publication) and delightfully inept break-dancing.

Highlights included the singles Half Man, Half Machine, and the top three single, Guns don't kill people, Rappers do, which had their devotees waving their hands in unison.

In the words of GLC - “Safe as. You knows it.”
