A Dereham bakery is in with the chance of becoming Britain’s Best Bakery after amazing judges on a new daytime national television show.
Metfield Bakery, based on the Rashes Green Industrial Estate, has secured a place in the national finals of the ITV1 show.
Owner Stuart Oetzmann appeared on television on Friday, in the central regional finals.
He impressed the judges with his mini loaves with Cromer crab fillings, traditional scones infused with figs, gooseberry trifle and custard tart and chocolate torte with raspberries and honeycomb.
Mr Oetzmann, who has owned the business for 10 years, said the telephone had not stopped ringing since the programme was aired with people ordering his products.
“It has been great for the business already,” he said. “I can’t say how far we go in the competition but they did say we were the ones to beat.”
More than 200 bakeries were nominated for the show which were whittled down to 36. As well as baking skills, judges looked at the business itself, the premises and customer service.
Metfield Bakery is due to appear in the national finals on December 17, on ITV1 at 4pm.
You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy a visit to the Bridge Inn, but it might help. There are two 22 lakes in the immediate area, and anglers make a beeline to the pub, which is about 10 miles from Norwich, every season.
