Refurbishment work has just been completed at Cocoa Mama’s chocolaterie in Eye, which was opened in June by Helen Fraser, 44 and her husband Brett, 49 aiming to sell fresh chocolate cakes made on the premises in Broad Street.

Former motoring photojournalist Mr Fraser said chocolaterie’s were quite common on the near continent, especially in Belgium and France, but not so much in England and even less so in the north Suffolk area.

He added the couple were aiming to offer a different service by combining the coffee and chocolate shop to create a relaxing atmosphere where customers could sit and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and sample some of the chocolate on offer.

Former BBC Top Gear presenter Mrs Fraser creates the food herself using ingredients sourced from the surrounding Suffolk countryside, including honey, raspberry, apple, lavender, dark ale, cider and even chilli.

The couple, who have two children Grace, 14 and Fox, 12, also run the Tilting Sky gift shop in nearby Lambseth Street, which specialises in jewellery, handbags, accessories and toys.

The chocolaterie also sells a wide variety of teas, including a number of herbal flavours created by specialist tea company Teapigs, which is based in Essex.

Mr Fraser said the new business had also created three new jobs.

He added the couple had always had an interest in fine dining, having been brought up with good food and also eating well during their previous careers and they wanted to introduce this to the chocolaterie by using the best ingredients.

“We aim to provide good quality, fine flavours and a relaxing atmosphere. With the coffee and the tea we have tried to buy the best flavours,” Mr Fraser said.
