The A Team singer helped to make a seriously ill girl’s dreams come true as he visited her in hospital for an exclusive bedside performance of some of his hit songs.
Ed Sheeran is certainly making the most of his break from the music industry, doing his part to help children through his role as an East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Ambassador by donating his possessions and performing at fundraisers.
The latest in a string of good deeds took the singer to Epsom Hospital in Surrey, where last week he visited Melody Driscoll, a young girl who suffers with a number of medical problems, including Rett syndrome - a rare, life-limiting, neurological disorder.
Nine-year-old Melody was said to be “on cloud nine” following the 90 minute visit where she enjoyed a rendition of Sheeran’s hits Thinking Out Loud and Photograph.
The Lego House singer even managed to tune Melody’s pink guitar for his performance, her mother, Karina Driscoll, said.
A campaign for Melody to meet Sheeran began roughly a year ago on her Facebook page, Melody In Mind, but the visit is thought to have come about after Croydon Police intervened.
In a post addressed to Ed on the Facebook account, Ms Driscoll thanks the star for making her daughter’s “dream come true”, stating that it is he who helps keep Melody smiling through it all, she said: “She [Melody] fell in love with you when Thinking Out Loud came on TV for the very first time. Her reaction said it all. She sat there beaming at you on the TV and didn’t take her eyes off you for a single second. Then every single time you came on the TV after that she gave the exact same reaction.
“One of those times she was watching you she became in pain and you pulled her through that episode. So from then on every time she becomes in pain we have to put you on our phones to help her through it.”
She added: “So many times I nearly lost her because she was giving up but as soon as we put you on Melody would start fighting back. This is what I mean when I say that I literally owe you her life. You literally keep her alive.”
