Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is not bothered if the Blues are written off ahead of their Championship play-off semi-final tussles against East Anglian rivals Norwich City.

Alex Neil felt the footballing fates would conspire to thrust Norwich City and Ipswich together in a heavyweight Championship play-off showdown.

It was one of the least surprising awards of the Championship campaign – but also among the most deserving. Bradley Johnson collected the Barry Butler Trophy with his name etched alongside a host of Norwich City legends, as the club’s player of the season – and then duly proved why.

It has been a curious season for Ipswich Town – from lukewarm beginnings to dreaming of automatic promotion, and then sliding down again but clinging on to that final play-off berth thanks to a truly epic blow-up from often-leaders Derby.
