Young Barnham Broom golfer Charlie Woodward has given himself an excellent platform to build on after making his presence felt in 2017.

The 13-year-old Hethersett Academy pupil started the year with a handicap in the 20s but has got it down to 16 by performing well in a number of competitions.

Charlie played in the Norfolk County Golf Union Order of Merit series and did superbly for one so young, finishing second in the men's handicap section on with 215 points, with only the far more experienced Dylan Green ahead of him in the rankings.

He was also runner-up in the junior handicap section, a mere two and a half points adrift of eventual winner Alfie Edgson from Heacham Manor.

Charlie, who was named joint county junior squad player of the year with Alfie, won the Norfolk Under-14 Handicap title at Wensum Valley during what was a memorable summer and also shone in competitions for his club. He has been coached from a young age by Chris Potter.
