Three generations of the Turner family from Costessey took part in Norfolk & Suffolk Flyfishers’ impromptu ‘Try the Fly’ session at East Tuddenham on Saturday under the watchful eyes of the society’s coaching team.

In very challenging, bright and blustery conditions, it was the youngest member, 10-year-old Danny, who salvaged the family honour, banking his first ever trout from in front of the memorial benches on the bottom lake.

The thrill of casting to a surface feeder and watching the bow wave follow his green damsel nymph may well tempt him back again, away from his regular carp fishing haunts where he can be found most weekends with his mum Joanne and his grandfather, Roy.

Meanwhile, 34 other visitors have taken almost 90 fish this week, including many over the 2lb mark, mainly from the bottom lake, which means the society will be restocking yet again in the next few days.
