Wroxham manager Stewart Larter has praised his side’s ability to bounce back from poor results ahead of their Ryman North encounter with Cheshunt today.

A 2-0 victory over former Yachtsmen boss David Batch’s AFC Sudbury on Tuesday was the perfect tonic for Larter and his men after a 3-0 defeat at Thurrock three days previous.

And the Wroxham gaffer has lauded his side for the way they have stepped up in times of adversity this season, with every league defeat they have suffered so far being abruptly followed up by a victory the game after.

“They way we have responded to defeats has really pleased me this season,” he said. “Sometimes you can get a little bit down on yourselves when you lose and it can be like the world has fallen apart, but we always look at the whole thing.

“We talked a lot before the Sudbury game about bouncing back from the defeat on Saturday and I was really pleased with our application on the night.

“We looked good when we got in front and I don’t think we ever looked in a great deal of trouble.”

Mid-table Cheshunt visit Trafford Park having lost their last six games and conceding 19 goals in the process. Whereas Wroxham are the joint top scorers in the top four tiers of non-league football, in a far better position than this time last season.

So far this season the Yachtsmen have picked up 50 points, have scored 63 goals and conceded 29 to sit in third place but a year ago were 19th with 21 points, 42 goals and 64 conceded.

But Larter has warned his side that they must not take the Ambers lightly, saying: “I know Cheshunt aren’t on a great run if you look at their recent results but they’re no mugs and they won’t be on Saturday.

“Hopefully we will get all three points but we will have to be near our best to do so. It would be nice to win and set ourselves up for what is going to be a very intense few games coming up.”

Nathan Stone and Jake Imrie are back in contention for
selection after missing the Sudbury game but defender Stephen Taylor is still absent.
