Wroxham saw their excellent comeback attempt ruined as two late goals prolonged their poor run of form.

The visitors took the lead on 14 minutes through Jay Nash and doubled it three minutes before half-time through Jake Gordon.

Wroxham had a mountain to climb, but within eight minutes of the restart they were back in the game. Jamie Forshaw won a free-kick in a promising position, just outside the box, and stepped up to smash the ball into the top right-hand corner.

The goal spurred the home side on and they created a series of chances. Ollie Ebbage saw a shot deflected wide and a Nathan Stone looping cross very nearly found the top right corner. David Hinton then saw his cross headed narrowly wide by Ashley Jarvis before Stone’s shot was blocked on the line.

The pressure finally paid off 15 minutes from time when Seamus Kelleher cracked the ball home from the edge of the area to make it 2-2.

But the hard work proved in vain – three minutes later, John Easterford put the visitors back in front and, with only seven minutes left on the clock, Gordon scored his second of the game. To add salt to Wroxham’s wounds, Andy Howell was shown a straight red for a late tackle.

Coincidentally, Wroxham began the season away to Great Wakering, winning 4-3 after fighting back from 3-1 down.

The Yachtsmen have now conceded 14 goals in three games and sit 18th in the table.

They now move on to defending their Norfolk Senior Cup title with the visit of Great Yarmouth Town tomorrow night.
