Wroxham will be looking for a quick reaction to the latest of a string of poor results when they host Cray Wanderers this afternoon.

The Yachtsmen fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Brightlingsea Regent on New Year’s Day, their third successive defeat, leaving them with just one win from their last six games.

With just 48 hours between the games, it will also be a test of Wroxham’s strength in depth – although manager Stewart Larter is sure his side can step up to the plate, both mentally and physically.

“Playing two games in three days is tough physically, but we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves,” he said. “The pitches are obviously a lot heavier as well so that’s both physically and mentally tough for the lads.

“But it’s the same for the majority of the teams having to play both Thursday and Saturday so we have to get on with it, which I’m sure we can.”

Cray Wanderers have struggled since their relegation from the Ryman Premier last season, sitting second from bottom in the table, ahead of only Burnham Ramblers, with just 17 points from their opening 25 games.

They haven’t played since December 27, when they were beaten 1-0 away to Chatham Town.

Their scheduled match at home to Thamesmead Town on Tuesday evening was postponed because of a frozen pitch at Hayes Lane.

It means that, potentially, Wanderers will be fresher than Larter’s men for this afternoon’s clash – but the fact that they have gained just one win away from home all season will give Wroxham hope of picking up a much-needed win in front of their own fans.

Danny White will be hopeful of returning to first team action for the Yachtsmen after missing the New Year’s Day defeat through injury.

• An 8.45am pitch inspection is planned at Trafford Park due to heavy rain being forecast.
