Wisbech Town confident they can shock runaway UCL leaders Spalding United

Wisbech Town joint-boss Dick Creasey insists his side can cause an upset when they host runaway leaders Spalding United this afternoon.
The big spending Tulips are 16 points clear at the top of the United Counties League Premier Division and have won 23 of their 24 games this term. They have picked up 30 more points than seventh-placed Wisbech, but Creasey is sure his side will relish the challenge against the champions elect.
He said: “All of Spalding’s players would be comfortable playing at a higher level but we want to test ourselves against the best and give them a good game.
“They are short of football as well so it will be a case of whoever can get out of the traps the quickest. We need to put in a performance so we are ready for our FA Vase game the following week.”
Wisbech go into the fixture having lost 2-1 to Huntingdon Town at home in the last 16 of the UCL Knockout Cup on Tuesday. The hosts took the lead after seven minutes through midfielder Adam Millson. But after the break Wisbech played into a strengthening wind.
They held on until the 76th minute but then shipped two goals in three minutes, the second straight from a corner, to tumble out of the cup.
Spalding haven’t played since January 21 due to wet weather. That evening saw them also dumped out of the league cup thanks to a shock 3-2 after-extra-time defeat to fierce rivals Boston Town. Adam Jackson and former King’s Lynn Town player Ross Watson netted on the night.
