Brenda Whitehead has won the Norfolk County Women's four-wood singles title for the fifth time after beating Shirley Jones in the final at RG Carters Bowls Club.
Her victory over Jones added to her previous successes in 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013 as she won 21-11 in the final after beating Louise Knights (21-14) in the semi-final. Jones had earlier beaten Jenny Kirby (21-17) to make the final.
Rebecca Field won the two-wood singles after beating Margaret Hunt in the final 18-11. Field had earlier beaten Jack Devitt (17-6) in the quarter-finals before seeing off Anita Smith 15-14 in a thrilling semi-final.
Field followed this victory up with more success in the pairs alongside Norfolk Bowls club team-mate Emily O'Hanlon as they beat Acle pair Sheila Stacey and Jenny Kirby in a clash which went down to the final end. Both leads held their nerve but the Acle pair held as the skips went to bowl. Three close attempts from Field forced a mistake from Kirby, pushing a Norfolk Bowling Club bowl in for shot which went unanswered for Emily and Rebecca to take the trophy.
The semi-finals of the triples and fours competition had been played earlier in the season, so with the Norfolk representatives for the national finals decided, all was left was the winners to be crowned. There were mother and daughter pairings in both finals and it was the dream finish for Natasha Brooks and Amy Barker who were joined by Jane Watson from Great Plumbstead BC as they beat Doreen Smith, Doreen Newbury and Marlene Kay from Staniforth BC 20-14.
In the fours, Sheila Malyon, Ann Chambers, Jan Dearman and Thelma Scarffe from Swaffham BC found themselves all square against Shirley Hunter, Janet Chapple, Elaine Cole and Lianne Mills from the home venue RG Carters BC at 17 ends before three ends on the bounce for the Swaffham quartet a two, three and final five putting the trophy out of reach for the four from RG Carters.
In the under 25s competitions, reigning champion Anna Chalk secured the title for the fourth time in a row against Wymondham Dell BC's Elisheba Bell 21-12.
And the under 25 pairs continued to show the young talent in Norfolk with an average age of just 15. It will be the turn of Evie Scott and Nicole Mosely to travel to Leamington Spa as they took the final over Ellie Johnson and Emily O'Hanlon 22-10.
The final place for the county at Leamington was fought out in the senior fours competition as County Arts' Pat Clarke, Sandra Curtis, Christine Webb and Jayne Roylance saw off the quartet of Carole Baker, Elsie Elvin, Linda Bennett and Kay Carrick (14-19) in the final.
The final county competitions of the unbadged singles, pairs and champion of champions saw some new faces hit the stage.
Lucy Tufts featuring in both unbadged competitions with pairs partner Sam Coverdale. She beat Elisheba Bell in her semi-final 21-11 before falling short in the final against Lynn West 21-8 who had earnt her place in the final by beating Nicole Mosely 21-11.
In the pairs, Chris Abbott and Audrey Porter from Kings Lynn BC scored on the final five ends unanswered against Lucy Tufts and Sam Coverdale to win 21-18 for a match up in the final against RG Carters BC's Shirley Hunter and Angela Curdt who defended a 19-10 lead to win 19-15 against Pauline Hurrel and Sue Pheasant from Hunstanton BC. It was Chris and Audrey who continued their winning ways in the final, leading all the way to a final 22-13 finish.
Holt took the victory in the Champion of Champions competition, Jenny Eldred claiming victory over Pam English from Downham Market BC before beating Ann Tickner 21-12 in the final, after Ann came through came through a 21-20 nailbiter against Marlene Hooper from County Arts BC.
The last competition of the week will be concluded later in the season where Brenda Whitehead was this time joined with Norfolk BC club mates Anne Read and Joyce Webster to beat fellow NBC triple Anne White, Gloria Hill and Julie Walmsley and they will play Claire Turner, Helen Wilkinson and Sheila O'Hara from County Arts, who ended Kacey Cook, Anne Tickner, Pat Smith's campaign.
