Sixteen-year-old pair Kyran Stannard and Shaun Stocker starred as Lynn’s second string recorded back-to-back wins in Peterborough Division One by beating Ryhall United 5-0.

Chez Rust, Chris Ward, Nelson Moreira, Luis Duarte and Stocker netted for the Linnets to leave ‘Joff’ purring at his youthful side’s potential.

Hawes, whose second-placed side travel to Ketton on Saturday (2pm), said: “If players are good enough they will start. Shaun and Kyran have got a good range of passing and they compliment each other very well.

“Some players who have shone at under-15 level step up to men’s football and go by the wayside. But those two have taken to it really well.

“If the club look after them they’ve got a couple of players with the potential to be pushing for a first team place in three or four years in my opinion.”

In the Thurlow Nunn First Division, Swaffham Town’s four-game winning streak was halted by a 2-1 defeat at Brightlingsea. Joe Jackson scored for the Pedlars who welcome Wellingborough Whitworths in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round this weekend.

Boss Paul Hunt said: “For 70 minutes Brightlingsea played well and deserved to win. We looked a little bit jaded and disjointed. What was pleasing was we showed great character and didn’t give up and could have nicked something at the end.”

Striker Rory Harper may return at the weekend but midfielder Mikey Thompson and defender David Weaver-Pope are unavailable.

Downham host Northampton Spencer in the Vase having lost 4-0 at home to rivals Fakenham on Tuesday. Neil Goodbourn was sent off. In the Premier Division, Wisbech, who exited the FA Cup with a 3-0 replay defeat at Kettering on Tuesday, travel to Kirkley & Pakefield.
