With George Wood away in the lead after a race of attrition in intermittent rain, the Norwich Strada Sport rider described the finish.

'I was third wheel coming into the last corner 250 metres before the line and despite my rear wheel slipping out slightly I managed to stay up, accelerate past the two in front of me and hold on for second,' he said.

In the supporting 'Regional B' race top Norfolk finisher was North Norfolk Wheeler Mike Padfield, fifth behind winner Peter Blenkinsop (Fast Test). Padfield picked up several places in that last 250 metres as 25 or so competitors fought out a final sprint.

Course records fell like nine-pins in the Norwich Amateur Bicycle Club's time trial double bill on the Redenhall-based Waveney Valley courses.

Jason Bouttell (VeloVelocity) set the tone when he knocked over a minute off Gary Empson's 2010 record for the 10 mile version, reducing it to 19:10 in good but not exceptional conditions on Saturday afternoon.

In contrasting wet and windy weather next morning Verity Smith (Stowmarket & District) set a new women's course record of 1:00:45 for the 25 mile course up and down the same A143 road.

Visitor James Rix (Crawley Whs) did not hang around in the rain – taking just 50:35 to revise Harley Matthew's week-old new record of 51:37.

The Hillyfields venue for the VC Revolution cyclo-cross lived up to its name with a bottom-to-top climb that must have had several making resolutions to go on a diet.

There were Norfolk wins in the 50 plus Vets where Norwich rider Jimmy Piper (MS Society) beat rival Richard Muchmore (Renvale) by 1:02, but also at the opposite end of the age range in the Under 12s.

Here King's Lynn CC's Flora Barnett was outright winner from a mixed field of 32 boys and girls, 17 seconds ahead of top boy Harley Gregory (West Suffolk Whs).
