Thurlow Nunn League preview: Dereham Town boss Henman sets six-point target after Wisbech win

05:30 08 December 2012

Magpies boss Matt Henman believes last weekend’s win at Wisbech Town will count for nothing if his side fails to get six points from their next two games.

Dereham Town’s 1-0 triumph over their fellow Thurlow Nunn Premier Division title rivals has increased hopes at Aldiss Park of a serious championship challenge this season. However, Henman insists home victories over struggling Felixstowe & Walton United this afternoon and CRC next week have to be gained to keep up his fifth-placed side’s momentum.

“Wisbech is only a good result if we win the next two home games,” said Henman, whose team can go top if they win their three games in hand.

“We should go into the games with a lot of confidence and hopefully we can make sure we win a bit more comfortably than we did on Saturday, but ultimately we just want to get the wins. I just think (the win at Wisbech) it gives our season massive impetus. After some ordinary results and a bit of a wobble, to go there and win gives us huge belief, following on from the work we did against Norwich City.”

Dereham will be hoping Kirkley & Pakefield, eighth, can do them a favour today when they entertain table-topping Mildenhall Town.

Royals’ boss Paul Tong, who has been fending off interest in star striker Ryan Crisp, said: “We’ve turned down an offer from Leiston because we felt it didn’t reflect his value.

“There’s no animosity between the clubs – we’ve got a good relationship, but the offer wasn’t enough. We’ve had a number of inquiries from local clubs but there are still League clubs sniffing around him so we will see how that develops.”

Elsewhere, Norwich United host Diss and Thetford welcome Gorleston. In the First Division, high-flying Swaffham travel to Braintree Reserves, Fakenham visit Debenham LC, Yarmouth are at Ipswich Wanderers while Downham welcome Newmarket.
