Wroxham were put to the sword by Saffron Walden in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division as they were hammered 5-1 at Saffron Walden Town.
The Yachtsmen, who were four matches unbeaten going into the game, were second best all afternoon and only had Adam Plumstead’s goal to show for their efforts.
There was controversy around Kyle Baker’s injury time winner for Kirkley and Pakefield in their 2-1 win at Hadleigh.
Baker’s 30-yard effort had caught the Hadleigh goalkeeper by surprise but when the assistant referee raised his flag it seemed the goal may be chalked off. However, the referee told his assistant to lower his flag and gave the goal to confirm all three points for the Royals.
Kirkley had fallen behind in the first half through Jack Lambert’s headed effort but Liam Harvey-Cooper restored parity from the penalty spot before the break.
Sean Perfect got the Bloaters off to the perfect start when notching in the first minute and when Melford were reduced to 10 men after George Day’s sending off, the hosts were thoroughly in charge.
Mitch Forbes made it 2-0 in the 66th minute from close range but there was to be a sting in the tail for Yarmouth. Will Wingfield reduced the arrears from the spot in the 68th minute and the 10 men completed the comeback through Hassan Ally’s angled strike.
Fakenham Town continued to put their recent problems behind them as they claimed an impressive 1-0 win at Gorleston.
The Ghosts, who had to forfeit a match against Great Yarmouth earlier this month after failing to rise a side, look to be on the up again as Jimmy Williams’ strike secured all three points. Gorleston rallied but, despite Fakenham being reduced to 10 men when Reece Taylor was shown red, they couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Thetford Town went down to a 2-0 defeat against Ely City.
Swaffham Town are up to third in the First Division table thanks to a 2-0 win at Whitton United. Alex Vincent did the damage for the Pedlars with a brace.
Norwich CBS did the league double over Wisbech St Mary after claiming a 3-1 win. Wisbech took the lead within the first two minutes, when a cross was nodded down in the six-yard box for an easy tap-in.
CBS didn’t take long to reply with the ball falling to Jordan Attree in the box to slot home. Darren Terrington took only 10 minutes of the second half to put the home side 2-1 up and Attree sealed the win 10 minutes from time to make it 3-1.
Goals from Stephen Vincent and Vergilio Leitao earned Diss Town a 2-2 draw at Halstead whilst Luke Plumb got two in Downham’s 3-0 win at home against Team Bury. Matthew Calvert was also on target.
Liam Jackson and Lawrence Cheese were on target in Norwich United Under-21s 2-1 win over Debenham LC.
