Two young tennis players from Tunbridge Wells have secured crucial funding after earning their places in the Lawn Tennis Association's AEGON FutureStars programme.

Following a successful year on court, Mia Smith and Anouska Newman have been selected for the programme, which provides varying levels of support and funding for 378 junior players.

Smith, 12, trains at the Nick Bollietieri Academy in Florida and is new to the programme, while 14-year-old Newman, attached to the Bromley Tennis Centre, has been retained for another year.

Steven Martens, player director of the LTA, said: 'It's an exciting time for British tennis with so many promising young players coming through the junior ranks.

'We recognise that it's a long journey for players who develop through the player pathway. It's therefore very important we continue to provide the necessary support and the AEGON FutureStars programme is central to this process.'
