The Summer League title race is now on a knife edge as defending champions Wymondham dropped vital points.

Wymondham played three games in five days which began with a tricky away match at Halvergate. A tenacious performance saw Halvergate restrict their illustrious visitors to a 5-3 away win as three of the four games all finished in draws after late comebacks by the home side. Wymondham's Mark Linsdell, Debbie Sparham & Jack Pye opened with a 17-12 win against Keith Cooke's triple but Chris Mann saw a five-shot lead evaporate against Ray Lamb, Steven Lamb & Simon Warnes and the Halvergate triple scored two shots on the final end to grab a 14-14 draw.

The same pattern continued in the second half as Jack Pye's triple saw a solid 9-3 lead against Simon Warnes disappear resulting in an 11-11 draw. Chris Mann's triple also led against Keith Cooke but yet again Halvergate staged a late surge winning six of the last eight ends to clinch a 10-10 draw. Wymondham then played Diss and had to be content with a 6-2 win after Graham Atter, Russell Davidson & Terry Newby beat Neil Davidson, John Jeffery & Jon Sparham 15-13. Wymondham did not make any mistakes in the other three games though as they recorded a 6-2 home win. In their next match Wymondham visited Thorpe Marriott and this time there were no slip-ups as they collected an 8-0 win. Jack Pye's triple won 19-8 and 16-13 and Chris Mann's triple won 20-11 and 24-9.

Second-placed Bob Carter entertained Halvergate and Nigel Willard, Jamie Forster & Gary Best enjoyed a trouble free evening with wins of 18-6 against Simon Warnes' triple and 27-9 against Keith Cooke's triple. John Turner, Jason Woods & David Lamb though found they had a game on their hands against Kerry Greenacre, Steven Lamb & Keith Cooke and had to settle for a 13-13 draw in their opening game. After the break David Lamb's triple beat Roy Walker, Simon Warnes & Robbie Lamb 17-7 to earn Carter a 7-1 home win. These results will mean that Wymondham's last game of the season away to Bob Carter will almost certainly be the title decider.

Halvergate increased the pressure on Diss beating them 8-0 as David Knights, Robbie Lamb & Keith Cooke won their games 24-6 and 21-8 and Roy Walker, Steven Lamb & Simon Warnes won 13-11 and 15-8. At the bottom of the table Diss entertained Kirby Bedon with the visitors emerging with a 6-2 win. John Aggas' triple won 13-4 and 21-11 while Phil Watson's triple added a 14-11 win. The battle for promotion from Division Two continued with Horsford's 6-2 win against Hingham the latest chapter.

Ireland retained the SMPT World Cup in Chelmsford after defeating an England team featuring Wymondham's Jack Pye. Both teams won two games apiece in the final with England's Steven Proctor beating Mark Beattie 9-8 and another England win earned by James Trott who beat P. J. Gallagher 12-11. The Irish hit back to win the final on shots as Pauline Beattie beat Paul Seaman 17-11 and Joseph Beattie beat Jack Pye 15-9. England had beaten Sweden by 18 shots in the semi-finals with Jack Pye beating Jonas Hager 13-7 as England won on all four mats.

In the other semi-final Ireland beat Belgium in a tight match by just one shot. England had won all their three group games with Jack Pye their top player winning all his games. England opened with a 19-shot win against Norway with Pye beating Gunnar Frantzen 13-4. A 16-shot win against Wales followed with Pye beating Chris McWhinnie 14-3. Their final group game saw England beat Belgium by 22 shots with Pye beating Sibe Laureys 12-7. In the SMPT UK Open Wymondham's Chris Mann and Mark Linsdell both made it to the quarter-finals where Mann went down by just one shot to Andrew Evans of Wales while Linsdell lost by 11-4 to another Welsh bowler Sam Harvey.
