The scheme was set up in 2002 and contained five squads and 75-weekly participants but now boasts some 130 players in nine advanced squads as well as an additional 1,000 children taking part in weekly coaching sessions.

The programme boasts players who have passed through the set-up to join professional Academies, gain football scholarships in America while many have gone on to represent local senior football clubs.

Football Development officer and King’s Lynn Town player Dan Buhlemann said: “We currently have players this season who, as soon as they have turned 16, have been put into senior and reserve teams at Kings Lynn, Swaffham and Downham, which is great.

“Year on year the scheme has managed to grow bigger and better and we are constantly working on ways to improve what is on offer. Next year we are making more improvements to the advanced football programme including a pre-season schedule which I’m really excited about.”

The set-up, known as KLCF, offers coaching for anyone aged from four to 19 years old. Once players turn 16 they also have the chance to play for the College of West Anglia’s football academy.

KLCF hold weekly one-hour sessions at Lynnsport for four to seven year olds on Saturday from 10-11am. Players aged six to 16 train at the same venue on Mondays (5-6pm).

Coaches work to develop youngsters confidence and ability with a ball at their feet while players who reach advanced squads are given guidance on discipline and ways to improve their overall football knowledge.

Annual open trials will be held in June for the 2012/13 programme. Visit www.kingslynncommunityfootball.co.uk for more details.
