Striker Rob Duffy has been tipped to double his King’s Lynn Town goal tally in the new year.
The former Wales Under-21 frontman has found the net 10 times in 21 appearances since his summer arrival. But boss Gary Setchell is certain there are still better things to come from the 31-year-old during the second half of the season.
“Duffy manhandled both of their centre-halves,” said Lynn’s manager of Duffy’s goal-scoring performance during Lynn’s weekend win at Marine.
“That’s what I signed him to do, not what he had been doing previous to that. But like I’ve said, he’s had a kick up the backside and I think in the new year we’ll see a new and improved Duffers.
“He’s got to turn in another 15, 20 of them performances like he did on Saturday and he’ll get his 20 goals.”
The former professional joined the Linnets looking to get his injury-hit career back on track. Although he has been eased into life in Norfolk, coming off the bench nine times – as well as suffering a broken nose – Duffy has become his side’s top scorer this term.
Another new recruit this campaign, midfielder Jack McGovern, is likewise expected to show his true colours in 2014.
Setchell also told the club’s YouTube channel: “Jack announced himself as a King’s Lynn footballer at Marine. It’s hard to come to King’s Lynn. He’s had one or two steady games but at the weekend I thought he was really, really good.”
