Modest Lewis Kerr admits he's still got plenty to learn before he expects to pull on a Great Britain race jacket.

King's Lynn Stars' sensational Fast Track Draft talent was left dreaming of an international debut at his home track when he was named in GB's initial 10-man squad for this month's Speedway World Cup meeting. However, those thoughts were extinguished yesterday when boss Alun Rossiter revealed the 24-year-old had not made his four-man team for the fixture at the Norfolk Arena on Saturday, July 26.

While some have voiced their displeasure at Kerr's omission the man himself accepts now is not the time for him to be thrust onto the sport's biggest stage. And the in-form reserve admits he understands why Tai Woffinden, Chris Harris, Simon Stead and Danny King have been picked ahead of him.

The Heacham-based rider said: 'To be fair, I didn't expect to be picked if I'm honest. The four he has gone with suggests to me that Alun has gone for experience.

'They're also all good around big tracks so I can't blame him for what he's done. Like I said initially, I'm just pleased to have made the 10-man squad and now I want to get in the pits and learn a lot.

'Rosco called and explained it and said it was a step too far for me at this stage and I couldn't agree more to be honest. I've had a good season so far but this would be stepping up to another level.'

Craig Cook has been selected as first reserve which means Kerr, Lewis Bridger, Ben Barker, Richard Lawson and Richie Worrall have all missed out on the chance to compete against Australia, USA and Italy.

But with his home track knowledge of the Saddlebow Road shale, Kerr insists he's still keen to do everything he can to help GB taste glory on the day – even though he won't be riding.

'I've been gating well regularly so if I can help the guys with set-ups and stuff I'd be happy,' added the Elite League ace who has shone in his rookie top-flight campaign.

'If somebody like Woffy (Woffinden) came up and wanted some advice I'd take it as a compliment. I just want to do anything I can to help the boys get to the final.

'I'm looking forward to it. I've been at World Cup meets before, but I've never been in the pits. I can't wait to get down there on the night.'
