The Bloaters announced they had parted company with their manager – whose team are just five points off the promotion places in Division One – on their website during the early hours of today.

A simple statement, entitled ‘Bloaters part company with Mike Derbyshire’, said: “A full statement will be issued shortly.

In the meantime GYT F.C would like to thank Mike for his past efforts in helping turn the club around.”

The 46-year-old took over at The Wellesley in September 2011 and oversaw one of the most traumatic periods in the club’s 117-year history. Yarmouth nearly went out of business, failed to fulfil a fixture at Wisbech Town, and were relegated from the Premier Division.

But Derbyshire stayed loyal and helped steady the ship guiding the seaside outfit to a sensational FA Vase win over higher-level rivals Gorleston this season. He leaves Town sitting eighth in the 19-team table.

The decision to remove the popular manager, who has also worked at Watton United, Bungay Town and Gorleston, has stunned many figures in the non-league game.

Former Gorleston and Diss boss Richard Daniels said on Twitter: “Local football never ceases to amaze me, if rumours r (sic) true then a certain club needs to look at itself HARD #hesavedasinkingship”.
