LOWESTOFT Town will be hoping to make it SEVENTH time lucky tomorrow afternoon after seeing two more matches postponed in the past week.

The Trawlerboys are due to meet East Thurrock at Crown Meadow with the club desperate to kickstart their season having had six consecutive matches called off thanks to the winter weather.

A snow shower on Tuesday evening hours before kick-off saw their fixture against Thurrock postponed whilst last Saturday’s game at Wealdstone also suffered the same fate.

Lowestoft lost more ground on the teams above them as a result and joint boss Ady Gallagher admitted his side face an almighty task overhauling leaders Whitehawk, who are 20 points ahead of the Blues, having played seven games more.

“Our backs are to the wall now,” said Gallagher. “There’s times when you feel that call-offs have come at a good time for us – players maybe haven’t been fit or we haven’t got a full squad to choose from.

“But since the middle of January we’ve had almost a full squad to choose from but we haven’t been able to play games. That’s as frustrating as it gets but all we can do is worry about ourselves.”

Gallagher admitted the referee had made the right call on Tuesday to postpone the match.

“Despite the fact the lines had been cleared there’s no way the game could be played – it was too dangerous.

“It’s the right decision but obviously a frustrating one for us.”

Gallagher hopes that once their season finally does get underway again they can start climbing the table.

“It’s (fixture backlogs) happened to us before, probably not as bad as this, and it was a successful time for the club,” he said. “I’m optimistic that once we do get playing that the boys will hit their stride and the table will look a lot healthier.”
