Ryman One North: Wroxham keep it clean as losing streak comes to an end against Erith & Belvedere

09:23 13 January 2014

Wroxham had to settle for a point as they ended a fun of five consecutive league defeats at Park View Road.

Danny Self and Mac Gee were making their first appearances of the season for the first team in place of suspended duo Sam Harty and Remy Gordon, while Ross Durrant was also in the line-up for the first time in two and a half months.

Both teams struggled to settle on a weathered pitch in a drab first half, Matt Halliday and Durrant both missing half chances for Wroxham with weak efforts, with Laurence Collins heading just wide in the 45th minute in Erith’s best opportunity.

The Yachtsmen – who had previously kept only one clean sheet this season – came out looking for an improvement in their attacking play at the start of the second half, this change in mindset almost having an immediate impact. Ben Price had two efforts cleared off the line, his first a fine back-post header from a Durrant corner that was well blocked, before a goalmouth scramble ensued, the ball ricocheting off Price’s leg only to be foiled on the line for a second time in frenetic fashion.

Durrant then unleashed a superb half volley on the turn from 25 yards that Bourne had to tip wide, before Stephen Drake missed a golden opportunity to give his side the lead.

Halliday found space in the middle of the park, slotting a precise through ball into the striker’s feet, who took it in his stride well but could only fire his effort too close to Bourne.

Erith almost snatched all three points in the dying moments, Ryan Flack breaking through in stoppage time, only to place his shot straight at Juhasz who had advanced well out of his area to restrict both sides to just a point.
