Cromer’s Ryan Walsh created boxing history on Saturday night when he won the British featherweight title at Wembley.

Walsh, 29, now joins twin brother Liam, holder of the British super-featherweight crown, at the top of his game – and makes them the first set of twins to hold British titles at the same time.

Ryan beat Hull’s Samir Mouneimne on a split decision after 12 storming rounds.

The local man had Mouneimne down in the fifth round, and when the final bell rang, both camps were claiming victory.

One judge scored it 114-113 to Mouneimne, but the other two had Walsh winning 116-112 and 117-111.

While the Walsh corner celebrated, there was anger in the opposite corner, with immediate demands for a rematch.

Walsh said: “I am happy I won the fight fair and square. If he wants a rematch then I can do it properly next time, because I know I could have finished this one early. But I am delighted – it is a dream come true.”
