Potters have taken another step towards the Norfolk SRA League Premier Division title for the first time after beating reigning champions East Anglia II 18-8 while their nearest challengers, East Anglia, won 17-4 away to bottom side Barnham Broom.
With just two matches to play Potters have a 13-point lead over East Anglia, while East Anglia II, with a game in hand, are 26 points adrift in third.
Potters lost the fourth and fifth string matches as Paul Field and Archie Swann were both beaten 3-2 by Luke Doddington and Mark Rolfe respectively, but they picked up the important bonus points as both Rob Hambrook and Jamie Goodrich won in straight games against Andrew Woods and David Youngs while S Maitland won what turned out to be the decisive second string match against Ashley Briggs 3-2.
The East Anglia first team had a 17-4 victory at Barnham Broom, who look doomed to relegation.
It is looking as though Broadland will be faced with the relegation play-offs as they lost 18-6 at home to Bannatyne’s.
East Anglia III consolidated their position at the top of Division One with a resounding 20-4 maximum at home to Barnham Broom II.
In Division Two, Bannatyne’s II moved to within seven points of the leaders after beating North Walsham II 19-3.
