Rain did not dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who lined the streets in South Wootton to cheer on the Olympic Torch Relay this afternoon.

The route started at the Hall Lane junction and finished at Langley Road and the first torchbearer started the relay just after 2.30pm.

David Cottom, 25, of Peterborough, finished the relay in South Wootton.

Other torchbearers today were Aj Ellwood, 14, of Ely, and South Wootton Junior School teacher, Simon Cook, 37, from King’s Lynn.

Bunting and Union flags lined homes, hedges and walls and people, young and old, blew whistles and cheered.

Dave Clinch, 53, of Langley Road, South Wootton, said: “It is extremely good. It is history.”
