While the majority of non-league games across the region were called off at the weekend, a community effort ensured two Norfolk sides were able to lock horns on Saturday afternoon.

Villagers and football players united to clear the snow off Dersingham Rovers' pitch so the West Norfolk side could take on Reepham Town.

Some 25 people arrived to the Manor Road pitch at 8am to help clear the snow, aided by a tractor with a 'large piece of timber' on the back.

Rovers' club secretary Aidey Peck said: 'The lads really wanted the game on. If you don't get these games played then fixtures mount up.

'Then you end up playing midweek under floodlights and for most of the lads, it's hard for them to get time off work because they work shifts so we made the effort to get the game on and it paid off.

'As well as there being the players, management and committee members, we also had people come from the village who have nothing to do with the football club which was just fantastic.'

He added: 'I am incredibly proud to have got the game on when so many other games were called off.'

Watching the game, Reepham Town chairman Marcus Wilkinson said: 'I think it's brilliant that the club managed to get the game on because I thought the game would definitely have been called off.

'What pleases us the most is the fact so many people came out to make the effort because it would have been easy to call the game off.

'You've got to give everyone who made this game possible credit and the game was played in good spirit as well.'

The Anglian Combination Premier Division clash between the Norfolk clubs ended 2-2 with both sides feeling they could have taken three points.

On a very heavy pitch, Kevin Winkworth put Reepham ahead in the first half with a calm finish and their lead was doubled by Steven Drake early in the second half.

Town were then guilty of missing a couple chances before Rovers pulled a goal back halfway through the second half with a fine finish by Danny Jezeph.

This sparked the home side into life and Rovers had the perfect chance to level the game soon after when Jezeph was pulled down in the penalty area – only for Paul English's spot kick to be saved.

Rovers, however, did pull level in injury time when Jezeph was the first to react after a header towards goal was parried by the Reepham 'keeper.
