There were more celebrations for Thetford at Two Mile Bottom, as a league and cup double was secured.

With the Greene King IPA Eastern Counties Two title, and promotion, already in the bag Thetford took on Broadland Great Yarmouth in the Woodforde's Norfolk Junior Cup final.

After a sloppy start from both teams, Thetford won good ball from a lineout after 15 minutes and set up a maul which they drove over the try-line through Rory Williams, but it was deemed to be held up.

The Broadland openside flanker made a good break from a lineout but was tackled five metres from the line by full-back Ryan Gardiner who drove him into touch.

Thetford then stole the resulting lineout through the ever hard working Sean Groombridge and Matthew Briggs fed Harry Stenton, who passed to Zak Pizzey, who broke the gain-line but again was tackled at the 22.

Broadlands won the ball back and cleared their lines, leaving the scorers untroubled at the break.

Head coach Keith Rix told his side to move the ball wide if they wanted to claim the win, but it was Broadland who scored first after an offside in midfield allowed the Broadland fly-half to kick the first three points of the match.

Broadland were given another penalty, for Thetford not retreating the required 10 metres after a penalty from a scrum, and again their fly-half kicked the ball between the posts to move 6-0 ahead.

But Thetford upped their pace and any penalty they had they took quick taps through Briggs and finally quick ball out to the backs saw Kain Rix break the tackle and, although stopped by the full-back, his offload allowed Josh Clark to score in the corner.

Briggs missed the conversion but Thetford dominated the last 15 minutes of their season and good passing allowed Briggs to make up for his miss with a try, which he did convert.

The 12-6 lead was then added to before the final whistle, with Max Wilson passing to Briggs, who noticed Clark standing in acres of space and chipped over the tiring Broadland defence to allow Clark to touch down in the corner. For a final score of 17-6 to Thetford.

Enviro-waste man of the match: Abe Barnes.
