A thrilling comeback – which included winning a last-heat decider – saw Lynn move to the top of the early-season standings.

The Stars' impressive Norfolk Arena record looked at risk last night when Wolves moved into a six-point lead with as many races to go. But Rob Lyon's high-fliers won three heats after the interval, two by the maximum 5-1 scoreline, to pick up all three Elite League points and avenge their only defeat of 2014 – which came at Wolves last Monday.

Kenneth Bjerre was the Stars' hero as he picked up his second paid-maximum in a row but it was sensational rides from Niels-Kristian Iversen and Robert Lambert that will live long in the memory of everyone lucky enough to witness the incredible meeting at Saddlebow Road.

Iversen was at the back in the 13th but cut inside world champion Tai Woffinden off turn four on lap one and went right around the outside of the impressive Piotr Pawlicki 15 seconds later to follow Bjerre home for a 5-1. If that was speedway on another planet, then 16-year-old Lambert produced a ride from another galaxy in the penultimate heat to keep Lynn in control.

The Norfolk teenager, who had previously had a difficult night, went from third to first to turn a 5-1 reverse into a shared 3-3. But it was the manner in which he did it – high, wide and right in the dirt – which left Lynn's stunned fans drooling.

The Stars needed a 5-1 in the nominated ride to make it nine points from a possible nine on their own shale this term. And of course they did it in dramatic fashion when Bjerre got the gate - the only Lynn rider who seemed to start well from the tapes all night - and Iversen went round the outside to join him and cruise home to secure a truly mind-blowing eight-point win.

So dominant often in the reserves' races at home this season, things started to go wrong for the hosts from heat two – and it took a long while for it to get better.

Team Lewis, messrs Kerr and Rose, failed to win a home 'Fast Track' race for the first time this term as guest Steve Worrall showed why he's one of the Premier League's most wanted riders.

Wolves' replacement for the injured Joe Jacobs gated like a dream all night and his team-mates for the evening followed suit. Most of the time a visiting rider reached the first turn in the lead.

It's why the Monmore Green outfit won four heats on the bounce from the sixth and overturned an early six-point deficit to take a lead by the same amount.

They wouldn't have been that far behind in the first place had the electric Pawlickli not locked up in the third while leading and left Bjerre with nowhere to go. The visitors' Pole was excluded and the race was awarded as a maximum 5-1 to Lynn with their battered Dane picking up a race win despite careering into the top air fence with a monumental thud.

He picked himself up and won his next outing but from that point the meeting appeared to be running away from Lyon's in-form troops. The turning point was arguably Pawlicki's silencer breaking in the 10th as Lynn pulled themselves back to within two points of the Midlanders. And after the interval the Stars never looked back as they fired another warning shot to the rest of the division.
