The summer racing season on Oulton Broad ended last weekend in a bit of a damp squib as the wind faded away and there was a steady drizzle which kept the numbers down and races were cancelled.

On Saturday the biggest fleet was the Junior Toppers with five and Joe Drake had the first of a trio of wins as he beat James Norse and William Stoner.

Peter Matthews sailing Eric Pearce’s Catastrophe won the Fast Handicap from Soctt Thomas’s Laser and Veronica Falat’s RS700.

The only other race was the Waveney class which was won by George Gower from Trevor Balls and Colin Fowler.

Sunday was no better and Drake won two more Slow Handicap races to add to his already impressive total as he beat Stoner and Evan Clough in both races. Adam Yorkston, sailing his first races, completed the fleet.

Although there were only two Squibs out, they had two very competitive races. Peter Horton won the first despite making a mess of the start which allowed John Lockwood to pull out a good lead.

In the second race Lockwood again took an early lead but this time he held it.

This Sunday is the end of season regatta combined with a Squib open when each class has three races in preparation for the winter season, which starts the following Sunday.
