The fly-half, pivotal to Leicester’s Heineken Cup quarter-final hopes, could face a 12-week ban for the alleged offence against his Worcester opposite number Andy Goode in the Tigers’ Aviva Premiership win on Friday night.

Flood already has his work cut out to oust Saracens’ Owen Farrell from the No 10 spot, and even Gloucester’s Freddie Burns from the match-day squad, after their performances in the win over New Zealand last month when Flood was injured.
