Struggling Wisbech have suffered another blow after centre Jack Hoyles decided to leave the club and return to North Walsham.
The Harecroft Road club have struggled for players, especially for away fixtures, and have slipped into the London North-East Division Three relegation zone after a run of six consecutive defeats.
Their cause hasn’t been helped by the loss of Hoyles who is heading back to the London North-East Division Two league leaders despite only making a handful of appearances for Wisbech.
Manager Cliff Humphreys said: “It’s a sad bit of news for Wisbech that Jack, who joined the club in September from North Walsham, has decided this week to resign for them.
“Jack appears not to have settled here and has not played for the club since he scored two tries in the emphatic win over East London (97-0) back in October despite being selected to play. We had hoped that Jack would have been a key member of our squad in our drive for promotion.
“But obviously something did not click for him here. We wish him well the door will always be open to him a Wisbech should it not work out for him at North Walsham.”
Hoyles’ departure further reduces the options that are available to Humphreys. He could only field 15 players for an away game at Cantabrigian but should have no problem selecting a full side for tomorrow’s clash with second-placed Wanstead.
“We do not have any major selection issues but one or two key squad members are still out due to injury,” said the Wisbech chief, whose side are 10th and three points from safety.
“I suppose this is a must win game for us.”
In Greene King Eastern Counties Division One West Norfolk will be looking to ease their drop fears by beating bottom side Thurston.
The North Wootton club, ninth, are five points from trouble and boss Nigel Richardson admits they are fully expected to complete their first double of the season tomorrow.
Richardson said: “We’re expected to win but we won’t be taking them lightly.
Jack Richardson returns for West but Joe Butt and top try-scorer Nick Bull are unavailable.
