Diss put a poor run of results behind them on Saturday when they beat Ruislip in a tight game at Mackenders to move back up to seventh place in London 1N.

Phil Sharpe’s side went into the fixture on the back of four straight defeats against some of the division’s top sides and knew they had a chance to get back to winning ways against a team below them in the table.

That’s the way it turned out in the end, although Diss were made to work hard for the points before eventually edging home without crossing the try line.

Ruislip gave a good account of themselves in the first half, scoring what proved to be the game’s only try and adding a conversion.

Diss kept plugging away though and although they could find no way through the visitors’ strong defence they kept themselves in the game through the accurate boot of Chris Beaird.

Going into the final 10 minutes Ruislip still held a slender 10-9 lead but when the hosts were awarded another penalty Beaird kept cool to send his kick between the posts and secure his side a valuable victory, their eighth in the league this season.

With a tally of 42 points from 18 fixtures they are comfortably placed in mid-table, well away from the promotion and relegation issues, and will be aiming to use the remainder of the campaign to build towards next season.

Diss are at home again on Saturday, with fifth placed Brentwood providing the opposition.
