Towards the end of last year the Horse Rescue Fund in Beccles was contacted to see if they could accommodate a foal who had been taken away from his mother at nine days old – abandoned, too young to be weaned, and not even possessing a name.

He arrived requiring immediate care as, being so vulnerable at such an early age, he hadn’t been getting the nutrients he needed from his mother, and was scouring badly. Quarantined, he started on regular two hourly bottle feeds and thanks to a dedicated team of staff was fed regularly throughout the day and night.

It wasn’t long before his health improved, he gained weight and learning to trust people. After much discussion, the staff decided to call him Oscar – or Ozzy to his friends.

The Charity rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes equines found to be in need such as Oscar and this is just the start of his story. As he grows he will receive the education he requires and when ready a suitable ‘loan’ home will be sought for him.

Details of the work Horse Rescue Fund does can be found at www.horserescuefund.org.uk. Donations can be made online, or can be sent direct to the Horse Rescue Fund, Toft Monks, Beccles, Suffolk NR34 OEH.
