Harleston Magpies made an impressive return to National League action to keep the pressure firmly on leaders Sevenoaks.

Magpies started superbly, gaining a short corner from their first attacking move which was expertly converted by Emma Lee-Smith.

A few minutes later a free-hit in the Wimbledon 22 was passed to Sarah Brook who quickly found Hannah Palmer and her first time shot flew into the net to give Magpies a dream start.

The visitors continued to enjoy plenty of possesion, particularly dominating the midfield, but struggled to get past an increasingly aggressive Wimbledon defence.

The home side started the second half in determined mood and eventually pulled a goal back.

This led to a few nervous minutes but Magpies responded with a strong finish to the game and several good chances went begging before the result was put beyond doubt by another excellent short corner routine finished off by Lee-Smith.

Magpies are now six points clear of Ipswich and St Albans in the league and remain one point behind Sevenoaks.
