The only goal came in the first half when Emily Francis found Ellie Brine, who finished with some nifty stick work. City held on in an exciting second half with the help of some brave and decisive goalkeeping from Emma Dann.

Dereham 3rds also trail Magpies and City on goal difference alone after beating fourth-placed UEA – who are a further point behind – 2-1.

The students ran rings round Dereham early on and took the lead after 20 minutes. But Dereham’s defence stayed firm with the help of some fine saves from Megan Ballman and when two students collided and banged heads just before the interval it changed the course of the game.

Dereham took full advantage. Becca Smith-Ames equalised and Gemma Pointer scored the late winner.

Dereham 2nds beat Lowestoft Railway 2-0. They went ahead in the first half with a goal from a short corner by Fran Grapes. Becca Taylor got the second from a pass by Lulu Humberston.

Norwich City 3rds had a crucial 1-0 win at Evergreens, the only goal coming in the second half when Hannah Jarvis was twice denied by the Evergreens keeper, only for Rachel McCarney to finally force the ball over the line.

Norwich Dragons 3rds are eight points clear in Division One following a 4-0 win over bottom of the table Reepham.

Reepham, despite starting with only nine players, held Dragons to a single penalty corner goal by Amy Brown in the first half.

Dragons were better in the second half and added further goals from Debbie Santa Clara, Brown and Pollyanna Watson.

Broadland 2nds are fourth after coming from behind to win 4-1 at Norwich City 5ths. They fell behind to City’s first penalty corner but responded quickly through Izzie London. Nina Torin hammered the second goal to give them an interval lead and Becky Savory scored twice in the second half.

Jemma Pennick scored the second half winner as Norwich City 6ths won 1-0 at Hornets in Division Two – the clean sheet providing a fitting finale for goalkeeper Maria Rowe.

Norwich Dragons 4ths are five points clear at the top after beating Loddon 2nds 4-1.

Annika Richardson scored twice in the first half and player of the match Sue Cross – who seemed to be everywhere – added two beauties in the second.

Lois McGregor scored the only goal as Norwich Dragons 5ths beat Old Buckenham 2nds 1-0 – their third consecutive 1-0 victory. But Old Buckenham look to have found a potential match winner in newcomer Emma King.

Sprowston 3rds beat Norwich City 2-0 with Liz Hollis get both goals in the first half.
