Harleston Magpies travelled to Bristol for the first of their four games in the National League Division One.
The squad, which welcomed back Gareth Furlong back from Sheffield University and Carl Sitch from Loughborough University, started the weekend with a game against outdoor rivals St Albans.
They knew only a win would do as the remaining games were against outdoor Premier National League teams plus Holcombe, who currently sit top of the East National League.
And they duly obliged with a 7-4 victory courtesy of goals from Tom Graham, Andrew Bedwell, Gareth Furlong (two), Carl Sitch (two) and Richard Larkin.
The second game saw Harleston face a strong Holcombe side. Both sides started the game cautiously but it turned into a goal fest with Gareth Furlong, Rhodri Furlong Leigh Sitch and Stuart Leate on target in an 8-4 defeat.
The following day Magpies gave National Leaguers Hampstead and Westminster a little too much respect early on and found themselves three down before a goal from Rhodri Furlong gave them a lifeline.
Unfortunately they could not build on this and, despite a late goal from Sam Moore, they lost 7-2.
The best was saved for last as Harleston beat unbeaten Brooklands 6-5. They raced into a 3-0 lead with goals by Gareth Furlong, Carl Sitch and Stuart Leate. Further goals from Tristan Baynes (two) and Gareth Furlong put them 6-4 up, and although Brooklands closed to 6-5 it was too late to save the game.
The squad travel to Bristol again this weekend to play Havant, Southgate, Sevenoaks and Bourneville.
