Norwich cyclist Tony Reynolds, who died on Saturday aged 65, was a true enthusiast for sport and, in particular, for cycling.

As a teenager he raced with Galley Pirates cycle speedway team in Norwich. In his 20s football took over – for Diamond H Controls and Chartac while later he was a good table tennis player. The return to cycling came in 1980, first with the Norwich Amateur BC, with whom he was fourth overall in the 1986 Breckland 12-hour with 242 miles. By 1990 he was with the CC Breckland, which he was never to leave. Notable rides included 59:36 for 25 miles at Bury in 1991 and 400.6 miles in the North Road 24-hour, based at Ely. Tony remained an ever-present on the result sheets until very recently, even when the effects started to appear of what proved to be cancer. He rode sportives in France with CC Breckland and kept a bike in a hotel abroad much frequented by himself and his wife Vicky.

Retirement from work opened opportunities to join CC Breckland ‘Wrinklies’ social rides and Reepham Station Tearoom meets – and to do what he liked best – riding his bike.
