Liam Walsh will be hoping Lady Luck is finally on his side as he prepares to make his British title dream come true next month.
The Cromer fighter takes on super-featherweight title holder Gary Sykes in Manchester - his third attempt to get into the ring and bring the coveted belt back to Norfolk.
The clash has twice been postponed. But this time the undefeated Walsh is fit and raring to get back into action as he attempts to emulate the feats of Jon Thaxton and Herbie Hide, the only men to have brought British titles back to Norfolk.
“I’m really excited to get it on against Sykes with his British and my Commonwealth title on the line in what will be a cracking fight on a great show,” he said. “I commend his performance against (John) Kays – there’s no question about his heart to come back from a cut eye and knockdown to stop him in the 10th. A thoroughly deserved win, but now he’s up against me.
“I know what he brings to the table and I’m confident that I’ve got the skill and talent to beat him. It’s been my dream to win the British title and I’ll fight with every ounce I’ve got in me to take that title off him and become a double champion.”
The fight is on the undercard of the Dereck Chisora v Tyson Fury bill at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester on July 26. For tickets, call 07920 114698 or 07796 206124.
