Norfolk bowlers helped England to a double triumph in the British Isles men’s and women’s Under-25 international series.
England’s men, playing in Newport, won all three matches, while the women, who were in action in Bromsgrove, won both their matches.
For the men the damage was done on day one as England crushed the Irish by 52 shots before beating Scotland by 20 shots. With the title wrapped up, they beat Wales by one shot, 71-70, to make winning the series sweeter.
Sam King, from the Gallow club, led for Wayne Willgress, of Norfolk Bowling Club, as the rink won 30-18 against the Irish, the match finishing 107-55 as England won on all rinks.
Against Scotland, Willgress’ rink won 20-13 as England won 82-62 while they triumphed 26-10 in the narrow win over Wales.
At Bromsgrove, England went to a deciding match and managed to get past a determined Scotland team, coming back from a five-shot deficit to win the series by four shots.
Rebecca Carter, who was expecting to travel as reserve, ended up playing and her rink won 23-11 in the 92-51 opening win over Wales. Louise Catchpole’s and women’s World Matchplay champion Rebecca Field’s rink won 29-10.
It was a close game against Scotland the following morning, with England coming out 67-73 winners. Rebecca Carter’s rink won 19-17, while the Catchpole-Field rink went down 20-11.
