Acle lose but stay top of Norfolk CIBA County Bowls League after Mervin King’s men sink rivals

Despite losing 97-78 at Norfolk BC A, Acle A remain top of Division One of the Norfolk CIBA County Bowls League. Charlie Boon did the damage for Norfolk, top-scoring 36-6. It made little difference because second-placed County Arts A also lost, 101-63 at Gallow A with Mervyn King’s rink winning 31-13.

The top of the table clash in Division Two went the way of Acle B, who beat Pentney A 95-57 at home, Ray Meeks’ rink winning 25-8. Third-placed Pinewood Park closed the gap on the top two by winning 102-69 at Lakeside B (Keith Medlar 36-11).

Roundwood A remain in the bottom two after they lost 83-66 at Browston A, Vic Moores’ rink for Browston winning 25-10. Hunstanton won 108-63 at home to County Arts B with Roy Ebbs rink top-scoring 47-9.

Shotford A have opened a seven point lead in Division Three after they won 103-71 at home to Wymondham B, David Riches’ rink for Shotford winning 32-17. Dereham A beat Acle C 83-66 (Julian Cook 29-8) and Old Hall beat Browston B 92-64 (Bob Hall 27-7).

The top three in Division 4 all won. Leaders North Walsham beat Pentney ‘B’ at home by 115 shots to 54, Derek Jeary’s rink winning 43-5. Pinewood Park ‘B’ remain second after they won away at Diss ‘B’ by 87 shots to 84 despite the home rink skipped by Colin Manning top scoring 29-17.

Third placed Norfolk BC C won at home to Great Yarmouth A by 109 shots to 52 with Malcolm Reynolds rink winning 31-7. Wymondham C remain bottom of the table after they lost at home to County Arts C by 99 shots to 59 with the County Arts rink skipped by P Hurn winning 36-8.

With leaders Gallow B not playing the teams chasing them in Division 5 had a chance to close the gap at the top of the table. Dereham B lost 74-70 at Lynnsport B with the home rink’s David Bailey winning 24-12. Third-placed Shotford B won 85-75 at Great Yarmouth B (John Hutson 20-12). Brecks B beat Roundwood B 80-75 (V Waterlow 29-9).

The latest match in the Norfolk CIBA Top Ten League saw Pentney move to the top of the table despite losing 78-69 to Brecks.
