Norwich’s Matt Newson will be hoping the ghosts and gremlins stay out of the way when he races his F1 Stock Car at the Halloween Carnival Night at the Norfolk Arena on Saturday (6pm).
The BriSCA National Points title is now a shootout series, similar to that used in Nascar where drivers are eliminated as the season goes on. Saturday is the penultimate points round and Newson is part of the shootout made up of the top six drivers in the sport.
He enters Saturday’s meeting in fifth place, 50 points adrift of leader Tom Harris (Stourbridge), and will be hoping he can translate what should be a lot of partisan support from the big local crowd into a major points haul.
Newson has cause to enter with plenty of optimism as King’s Lynn is a track he has performed very well on in the past.
He is not the only Norfolk F1 driver in action with Harry Skoyles (Heacham) set to make his second F1 Lynn appearance. Skoyles made his F1 debut at the track three months ago, when he also had his first taste of racing on shale. He qualified for the meeting final – and has since made a couple of appearances at Coventry, where he has looked at home with the 650bhp produced by his big block Chevy!
Also in action on Saturday are the Reliant Robins and 1500cc Bangers. And a packed night of racing action also sees the first appearance in Norfolk for a couple of years of the internationally famed Slingshot Monster Truck – which will be wooing the crowds with a car crushing display.
Other Halloween events going on will include the Norfolk Arena Halloween Carnival Parade – where anyone who comes in Halloween Fancy Dress can go on a lap of the Norfolk Arena shale and gets a goody bag. Discount Q jumper advance tickets are from www.stockcar-racing.co.uk.
