Activities arranged by Havering Council
Children in Havering have the opportunity to take part in an array of different sports during the half-term holidays.
Activities ranging from athletics, archery, triathlon and even cheerleading are being arranged by the Council to keep youngsters entertained.
Last year all the days were well attended, attracting between 40 and 45 young people to each event and Cllr Andrew Curtin, Cabinet Member for Towns and Communities said: “Riding on the wave of the amazing Olympics and Paralympics London hosted this summer, and as part of their legacy, Havering is offering the chance for youngsters to try their hand at sports and activities that they may never have tried before, or develop the skills they already have.
“Encouraging children to be active helps them to burn off excess energy and is also a vital way to ensure that they lead happy and healthy lives.
“Regular exercise helps children to avoid illnesses like heart disease, stroke and certain cancers, improves mood, reduces stress and obesity and can even help children to do well at school.
“We’ve come up with a great range of different activities and there’s something there for all young people from age five up. I strongly encourage parents to quickly sign their kids up to one or more of the events we’ve laid on.
“Who knows, perhaps one of the youngsters taking part this half term will find the sport they excel at and be an Olympic or Paralympic medal winner of the future.”
